My Philosophy on Schoolwork
I only give homework that I believe will help you learn the subject we are studying. I do not believe in "busywork" and I do not assign homework just to keep you off the streets and out of trouble. I do not assign excessive amounts of homework. Mr. Harkness and I work hard to coordinate the work that we assign in Social Studies (him) and Science (me) so as not to overload you. Often, we will amend the homework on a particular night if we feel it is too much.
This said, I EXPECT YOU TO COMPLETE YOUR HOMEWORK EACH NIGHT. It is super-important that you get into good study habits and realize that your only job right now – other than being a model daughter or son – is to be a student. This is your present career and job title. Do it well. Show pride in everything you turn in. If it has your name on it, you are saying, "This is my best." Make sure that it really is. Do not turn in sloppy, quickly dashed-off junk. I won't accept it, because I respect you too much to believe that half-baked is really your best. I know you better than that.
p.s. Getting your work done and to school is NOT your parents' responsibility. It is yours. How many times have I heard kids blame their parents for their homework not getting done, not getting into their backpacks, etc.? Your parents already have jobs with a lot of responsibility; this is yours.
